Chemical To Kill Ants and Cornmeal

I do not like ants running around in my living space, particuarly the invading ants. I got interested to the subject because I recently saw some ants running, and wanted to get rid of them. One can get chemicals to kill ants from store, but I do not like such chemicals because I am not sure of possible effects they may have on health in addition to paying for them, and making sure I store them safely.

So, I read about a number of non chemical based ways to get rid of ants. One way is to feed them something they like to eat, and which woukld kill them.

Answer is feed them cornmeal! Ants will transporte it (for free) back to their home where other ants are waiting for dinner. When ants eat cornmeal, they may not live as ants may not be able to digest cormeal.

Cornmeal will instead swell inside the ants and cause them to die!

Orange Oil Termite No Move Out Pest Control

Pest control companies used chemicals to treat termites. Some are more toxic than others, and may require one to also move out (even the pets, and plants may need to be protected:-)) . There are termite control prducts known an orange oil termite control products. They use an active ingredients from orange (D-limonene).

Wikipedia says this about limonene: "Limonene is a hydrocarbon, classified as a cyclic terpene. It is a colourless liquid at room temperatures with an extremely strong smell of oranges. It takes its name from the lemon, as the rind of the lemon, like other citrus fruits, contains considerable amounts of this chemical compound, which is responsible for much of their smell. Limonene is a chiral molecule, and as is common with such forms, biological sources produce one enantiomer: the principal industrial source, citrus fruit, contains D-limonene ((+)-limonene), which is the (R)-enantiomer (CAS number 5989-27-5, EINECS number 227-813-5). Racemic limonene is known as dipentene.[1]"

D-limonene is found is used in various household products, and fragrance products. It has a relatively low toxicity, is therefore attractive as a termite control agent home owners and industries. Orange oil is also used in the manufacturing of resins, cleaning compounds, and as a fragrance additive in many products.

A main Orange Oil Termite control methods for home owners is that they do not have to move out (including their pets).

Ground Bees that live in the ground

Bees that live in the ground are known as ground bees. Attached image depicts bees . You can wake up one day, and discover them somewhere around your house. They can develop impressive hives. The question on your mind would be how to get rid of them?

I have been reading that bees are low in number these recent years, and bee keepers would be interested to get your bees. Your problem is their solution!

I will post some images of these bees in a next post.

You can call professionals to take them, but of course they will charge you for the job. Terminix, and Orkin are major pest control companies that would do it.

Some observations of these bees if you decide to do the job yourself:

1. They go to work during the day. So one may want to wait until the evening to build an attack.
2. They seem to have high energy during hot period of day. A time when it is cool might be the time to attack, such as night time.
3. There are suits that one has to wear.
4. I have wittnessed during a trip how they take the honey from bees. Smoke gets them running out, and they can not see the attacker. But many of them make they attack anyway. The suit is for that reason.
5. If one nears their hive (particularly when it is hot), some of the bee guards will run after you. They can chase a person for a long distance.
6. If one is chased by bees one should run not in a straight path. Move around, because they fly in a straight path.
